Train To Karaikal:


This is proposed railway connectivity. But none of those blue (thick or sky) is approved so far. Government has to work fast to put Perambalur, Jayamkondam on railway map.

Karaikal-Attur line would be good for linking this upcoming SEZ and power plant at Jayamkondam.

1. Karaikal-Mayiladuthurai:

During British/Danish period, there was branch line from Peralam to Karaikal via Thirunallar. And there was another branch line from Mayiladuthurai to Tranquebar. But railways has abandoned those lines long back. Now they should make extend the Nagore-Karaikal line from Karaikal to Mayiladuthurai via Thirunallar, Thirukadaiyur and Tharangambadi.

2. Mayiladuthurai/Chidambaram-Jayamkondam line:

If railway has to lay Mayiladuthurai-Jayamkondam line, then they have to construct a gigantic bridge on Kollidam rives at Anaikarai. The bridge itself will consume hundreds of crores for such line. So they have proposal for Chidambaram-Jayamkondam line

3. Jayamkondam-Ariyalur-Perambalur:

This should be much possible one to connect Jayamkondam upcoming power plants with Central TN hub Trichy via Ariyalur and it has to go upt Perambalur to connect the SEZ with Karaikal port.

4. Perambur-Attur:

This line is needed so that Perambalur will not fall under branch line category. And in other way it will connect Mettur power plant with Karaikal port is short route and it will also open connection for Bangalore/Hosur/Salem/Erode/Tiruppur/Coimbatore with Perambalur SEZ.

Karaikal-Attur and Avadi-Tiruvanamalai are the important lines needed for the state as of now. Both the lines are not even in planning stage.

Road connection is so poor that it has to take single or two lane SH.
